Polis's Push for Gay Rights, Marijuana

By Advocate.com Editors

Colorado representative Jared Polis Wednesday announced the launch of the Fearless Campaign, an initiative to bring Congress members together to caucus on difficult issues that may seem politically compromising, like gay rights and marijuana regulation.

Polis wrote that the campaign is about "putting people over politics" and "empowering our political leaders with the moral courage to vote fearlessly on the politically charged issues of today, regardless of the perceived political risk."

The six pillars of the campaign will be education reform, immigration policy reform, enacting more LGBT rights measures, legalizing marijuana, ensuring Internet neutrality, and protecting food regulation from special interests and lobbyists.

Polis, a Democrat, is one of four openly gay members of Congress.
