New Mexico Women’s Chorus To Perform Las Cruces Concert – January 29th

New Mexico GLBTQ Centers is proud to bring “Passport to America,” to be performed by the New Mexico Women’s chorus to Las Cruces on January 29, 2011. “Passport to America” will be a little different from concerts of the past few seasons.  While audience members will still find the themes of social justice and diversity for which NMWC is known, this concert will incorporate elements not usually seen.

“Passport” will feature songs that represent different parts of the US- from “California Dreamin’,” to “New York, New York,” to “A La Rue A La Me,” a traditional Northern New Mexican folk tune arranged by UNM music professor Bradley Ellingboe.   Rather than short introductions read by chorus members telling something about the pieces, this concert uses a story- a fictitious chorus touring America- to tie the songs together.   NMWC singers play members of the “Super Sopranos and Awesome Alto” chorus- who travel across the country using various modes of transportation.  And it’s not due to lack of cast members that the same person appears as plane pilot, boat captain and bus driver-it’s an intriguing plot element.

When:  January 29, 2011, 7:30 – 9:30 PM
Where: Good Samaritan Auditorium - 3011 Buena Vida Circle Las Cruces, 88011
Tickets: $10 in advance, $15 at the door, and $8 for Seniors and Students
