Former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann reportedly is set to join Current TV.
The New York Times reports on the likely move, which Olbermann is expected to announce later Tuesday morning.
“Neither Mr. Olbermann, his representatives, or executives from Current TV would comment on the move, but they did not deny that the channel, which counts former Vice President Al Gore as one of its founders, will become at least one partner in Mr. Olbermann’s future media plans,” reports the Times.
The liberal Olbermann abruptly left MSNBC, where he was the highest-rated anchor, in January following tensions including his suspension for making political donations. His soon to be announced plans could also include a separate project on the Internet, say insiders.
“A move to Current TV would challenge Mr. Olbermann’s fans of his MSNBC show — where he drew about a million viewers a night — to follow him to a channel that is considerably less accessible,” reports the Times. “Current TV is available in only about 60 million homes, and is usually available only on the digital tier of cable television systems, which requires a separate receiver. MSNBC, which is owned by NBC Universal, is available in 85 million homes and is almost always available as a basic cable entry.

Olbermann to Join Current TV?
Uganda Kill The Gays Bill Exposé: Scott Lively, David Bahati, David Kato
by David Badash
In this exposé, Current TV’s Mariana van Zeller went to Uganda and filmed the video below, “Missionaries of Hate,” “that examines whether the growing influence of American religious groups led to a movement that would make homosexuality a crime punishable by death in the African country.”
She asks, “Must we wait for Kato’s murder to be solved before we can safely say that “men of God” and leaders of state are inciting hatred?”
It’s a frightening exposé on Uganda’s “Kill The Gays” bill, Scott Lively, David Bahati, David Kato, and the evils of American Evangelical Christians.
If this is the kind of work Current TV’s new boss, Keith Olbermann will support, we’re all for it!
